उत्तराखंड के पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों में पाया जाने वाला मामूली फल तिमला बड़े काम का निकला है। जिस तिमला की फलों में कहीं भी प्रमुखता से गिनती नहीं की जाती, उसके भीतर कैंसर जैसी गंभीर बीमारी की रोकथाम के गुण मौजूद हैं। वन अनुसंधान संस्थान (एफआरआइ) की केमिस्ट्री डिवीजन के शोध में पता चला कि तिमला के तेल में चार ऐसे फैटी एसिड हैं, जिनसे कैंसर समेत अन्य बीमारियों का इलाज संभव है। इस शोध का प्रस्तुतीकरण दून में चल रहे 19वें राष्ट्रमंडल वानिकी सम्मेलन में किया गया। केमिस्ट्री डिवीजन के वरिष्ठ विज्ञानी वाईसी त्रिपाठी के मुताबिक वनस्पति विज्ञान में तिमला को ‘फिकस ऑरिकुलाटा’ नाम से जाना जाता है। पारंपरिक रूप से तिमला का नाम औषधीय गुणों के लिए लिया जाता रहा है, लेकिन अब तक यह पता नहीं था कि इस फल में कौन-कौन से तत्व मौजूद हैं।

इसी जानकारी के लिए विभिन्न स्थानों से फलों के सैंपल लिए गए और इनका तेल निकाला गया। जांच में बात पता चली कि तमाम औषधीय निर्माता कंपनी जिन तत्वों की मदद से कैंसर, हृदय रोग, कोलेस्ट्रोल का स्तर कम करने के लिए दवा बनाती हैं, वह सभी इसमें मौजूद हैं। तिमला के तेल से दवाओं का निर्माण किया जाएगा तो बहुत सी गंभीर रोगों की दवाओं की कीमत भी कम होगी, क्योंकि कच्चे माल के रूप में तिमला पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों में प्रचुर मात्रा में पाया जाता है।
